Auburn Architecture alum to give online talk about ‘Independence Bells of Philadelphia’

Auburn alumnus Tom Kaufmann, a 1988 graduate of the College of Architecture, Design and Construction, will be giving a virtual lecture this Thursday, Oct. 12, from 5:30-7 p.m., hosted by Philadelphia’s historic Carpenter Hall.

Kauffman is the author of two books, “Historic Alabama Bells” and “Independence Bells of Philadelphia.” In his latest book, Kaufmann claims that the Liberty Bell was among those rung to celebrate the first public reading of the Declaration of Independence in July 1776, despite the National Park Service’s conclusion that it was not.

Kauffman is an architect, historian and artist and currently works as special collections manager at Tuskegee University Libraries. He is also a Fellow Emeritus at the Institute of Classical Architecture and Art in New York City.
